God Wants ALL of You

#16: Intimacy. I’m curious what thoughts come to mind when you hear that word?

When I first started hearing it in my Christian circles used to describe a relationship with God, I admit I had a distorted understanding of its meaning and it felt a little tabu to be using it to describe a relationship with God.

Today’s episode will be a little shorter than normal because there’s only so much I can say without starting to get redundant but what the Holy Spirit shares with us is pretty powerful.

We are going to learn the true meaning of the word intimacy, what it means to be intimate with God and why he wants all of us.

Key Take-Aways:

  • The true meaning of intimacy is closeness, familiarity and friendship.
  • Pslams 139:7-10 ”Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.“
  • Proverbs 18:24 “Some friendships don’t last for long, but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other!”
  • When we talk about growing in intimacy with God, we are talking about friendship.
  • How can we start cultivating a friendship with God? By simply including him.
  • Deuteronomy 31:8 reads, ”The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
  • No longer do you have to feel lonely or like you don’t fit in; He calls you His child. Intimacy is the foundation of experiencing God’s best.

Heavenly Position Guidance Challenge:

For this week’s HPS Challenge, take out your journal and spend at least 15 minutes in a quiet space if possible. For the next 15 minutes, take a moment to invite God to be your friend. Go to him like you would an earthly friend and share everything with him. Don’t hold back. Pour it all out on the paper. Allow him to be a friend back to you.

The summer of my senior year in high school, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. As I approached my twenties, I was wondering what my purpose was and what I should be doing. As I entered my 30s, I felt as if God was calling me to entrepreneurship and started my own company.

After a few years of running my company, I started searching again for my purpose. I was working 7 days a week, 15-hours a day. I started questioning, "is this all there is?" I felt like I had missed the secret to life. Little did I know, I had.

After over a decade of running my company at the same pace and with two failed pregnancies, I hit my knees and begged God to help. I knew along the way I had left Him out of the equation of my life.

God did send me someone an amazing mentor who taught me how to operate my business by God's grace rather than my grind. In fact, I could operate every area of my life this way. One key was by co-partnering with God.

It was during this time I learned to tap in to the power of the Holy Spirit that resides in followers of Christ. This was the missing secret to life I had been searching for all those years. Now with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I can experience His fruits, love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, patience and self-control.

God has called me to share my experience with others so they can tap in to this same resource in every area of life. Join me each week on Spirit Led Life as we explore tapping in to the power of the Holy Spirit residing in followers of Christ.
