Hi, I'm Angie Robertson and you're listening to the Spirit Led Life podcast, episode 44.
Speaker A:On today's episode, I am going to do an October recap of what has been supporting me in my body, soul and spirit.
Speaker A:I'll be sharing things like a new dental routine.
Speaker A:I'm practicing, waiting on God and my conviction on making assumptions.
Speaker A:These are just a few of the things I'll be sharing.
Speaker A:I hope this episode inspires and encourages you to do your own reflection.
Speaker A:Let's get Go to the show.
Speaker A:Welcome back to the show.
Speaker A:On this podcast, we explore who God is so we can know who he has made us to be and learn to live our lives by the Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:For those new here, just a quick recap of what these monthly reflections are.
Speaker A:Back in episode five, we learned that we are made of three body, soul, and spirit.
Speaker A:And I talk about that throughout this podcast often.
Speaker A:And each of those parts has three parts for the body.
Speaker A:They are speech, the five senses, and action.
Speaker A:Our soul is made up of our will, mind, and emotions.
Speaker A:And our spirit is made up of our conscience, fellowship, and intuition.
Speaker A:Now, at the beginning of each month, I reflect back on the previous month on what has supported me in each of those areas.
Speaker A:So let's begin with the body.
Speaker A:Here is what supported me in October, starting with the five senses.
Speaker A:I'm actually doing a completely new dental routine by the time this podcast airs.
Speaker A:I've been doing it for a little over a week and I can already tell a huge difference even before this podcast airs.
Speaker A:So I'll share in the soul section under intuition why I started this new routine, but I'll share what I'm actually doing in this particular section.
Speaker A:I learned of a book called Holistic Dental Care the Complete Guide to Healthy Teeth and Gums.
Speaker A:And it's written by Nadine Artemis, I guess is how you say her name.
Speaker A:I'm not quite sure how you say her last name.
Speaker A:The book is very detailed.
Speaker A:The foreword of this book is written by a dentist and she has consulted a lot of dentists in this book.
Speaker A:She's also read a lot of medical journals.
Speaker A:She's done a lot of research about dentistry and it's a very.
Speaker A:I love the book because it's very thorough.
Speaker A:It really explains your mouth and like your teeth and how it's supported and what, how it works and how it functions and how it functions to our overall health.
Speaker A:And like your teeth actually affect other areas of your body and your mouth actually affects other areas of your body, like your heart, for example.
Speaker A:And also it can by doing oral care properly, you can stave off things like strep throat colds, flus, things like that.
Speaker A:So it really intrigued me.
Speaker A:And again, I'll share why I'm doing these steps, but let me just kind of outline what it is that I'm doing.
Speaker A:It's pretty extensive.
Speaker A:So there are about seven to eight steps that you do twice a day.
Speaker A:But they go pretty quickly once you start doing them and once you get into the habit of doing them.
Speaker A:And I'll admit it is the, it is not a pleasant routine in terms of taste, the entire process, except for the flossing, it is not the pleasant.
Speaker A:It's not your feel good minty toothpaste that makes you just feel good and clean afterwards.
Speaker A:But I will say that I can already tell a difference in my mouth.
Speaker A:I can already see a difference in my mouth.
Speaker A:The steps are twice daily.
Speaker A:So here they are.
Speaker A:I start off by swishing my mouth with a saltwater solution.
Speaker A:Then I scrape my tongue.
Speaker A:Then I brush my gums, not my teeth, my gums with some like botanical oils and a really soft toothbrush.
Speaker A:Then I polish my teeth with a tooth powder or you can do baking soda.
Speaker A:Then the next step is flossing, which I've always been one that flosses first and then brush my teeth.
Speaker A:And actually in this process, you floss your teeth after you've brushed your gums and your teeth.
Speaker A:Then you check your mouth for any rough spots.
Speaker A:You know how when you go to the dentist they clean your teeth and they say, do you feel any rough spots?
Speaker A:You're doing that same thing.
Speaker A:And I also have like a little mirror, the dental mirrors.
Speaker A:And I can look in my mouth and see if there's any spots that I can see buildup on.
Speaker A:And if there are, there's actually a tool that I use to kind of gently scrape that those areas and kind of get that buildup off.
Speaker A:Then I finally end with swishing my mouth with the salt water solution.
Speaker A:Again, there is an optional step which I am actually including in the evening and that is irrigating your gums with a special syringe.
Speaker A:It's like a syringe that's got this very fine like L shaped needle.
Speaker A:And it's not pointy at the end, it's just a irrigation.
Speaker A:It's kind of open at the end and you fill it with the saltwater solution.
Speaker A:And then you go into your gum line like where they measure your gums and you squirt the solution into that area to kind of debride if you will, your gums.
Speaker A:So I'm including that step because I'll explain why when I get to further down into our little series here.
Speaker A:So I know this might seem a little ridiculous.
Speaker A:I might have given tmi, but my goal is to reverse gum disease and that has begun.
Speaker A:And I also want to repair my gums as well.
Speaker A:And after reading this book and the research that I've done, this should do the trick.
Speaker A:And let's just say it won't hurt anything to do this.
Speaker A:So I really have nothing to lose by doing all these steps.
Speaker A:And I'll be sure to link to the book in the show Notes as well as the website where I'm purchasing the botanical oils and kind of my tooth polish that I'm using.
Speaker A:And like I said, the process goes really fast.
Speaker A:Now that I'm used to it, it's going really fast.
Speaker A:And also, if you're like me and you hate going to the dentist, I think about just about everybody does at this point.
Speaker A:This book might help you to understand your mouth a little bit better and take proactive steps to make going to the dentist a much better experience.
Speaker A:Now I'm hopeful for the next dentist visit that I have in February that it will yield a much better checkup.
Speaker A:Now moving on to action, it was taking the steps to launch the Journaling With Jesus community gatherings.
Speaker A:If you listened to the last episode, I shared all about what these are, but I thought I would share a little more of the backstory in this episode.
Speaker A:Now, as I've mentioned before, I love journaling so much that I used to manufacture journals.
Speaker A:It was a business that I attempted to get off the ground for seven years.
Speaker A:I have the habit of creating things before their time, so I'm kind of ahead of the curve sometimes.
Speaker A:And in this particular instance with the journal business, I was ahead of my time because it wasn't long after I sold the business and closed it down that you started to see all these people creating journals and planners and things.
Speaker A:It was kind of interesting to me, but I really held onto that business like a dog with a bone.
Speaker A:And the longer I was involved, the harder it was for me to let it go.
Speaker A:And I share the story of finally letting go of the business in my book, the Beauty and Letting Go.
Speaker A:So if you've read that this is you, you're familiar with the story.
Speaker A:If you haven't, you can go read the full story there and I'll link to my book in the show notes as well.
Speaker A:In fact, it was at the book writing event where I came up with the beauty of letting go, that I heard something so profound that it stuck with me.
Speaker A:And that's why I ended up kind of going this route.
Speaker A:I can't remember if I had sold the journal business by this point.
Speaker A:I don't think I had yet, or maybe I had just sold it.
Speaker A:But anyway, there were several of us at this.
Speaker A:I was at an event, a book writing event.
Speaker A:It was like a little mini kind of mastermind, if you will.
Speaker A:And there were several of us wannabe authors sitting around a table introducing ourselves.
Speaker A:And there was this guy who was sharing how he used to own a yoga studio and he ended up having to close up the business because it just wasn't making any money and he was losing money and he wasn't able to sustain it and he felt like a failure and he couldn't understand why it didn't work when he was so passionate about yoga.
Speaker A:And I'll never forget what our kind of leader, our instructor, said.
Speaker A:She said, what if owning a yoga studio was too small of a dream?
Speaker A:Now I'm a person who shows my feelings on my face even when I try not to.
Speaker A:And I know that at that moment I had to be showing the face of someone who was stunned.
Speaker A:That statement has always stuck with me and been in the back of my mind, especially when it came to the journal business and letting it go.
Speaker A:I knew I wasn't done with journaling, but I just didn't know how it was going to show up until now.
Speaker A:And actually I've known for a while, but I hadn't been ready to launch it.
Speaker A:I purchased the domain journalingwithjesus.com for several years ago and I even let the domain go.
Speaker A:And then I bought it back.
Speaker A:And I've just kind of been toying with this domain and just holding onto it.
Speaker A:Not really 100% clear on when it would launch or what exactly it would be.
Speaker A:But I know God had been working with me.
Speaker A:And as I started this podcast, I knew Journaling with Jesus was going to come in to this podcast somehow.
Speaker A:So earlier this year, as I was planning out the episodes for the rest of the year, I knew October I was going to focus on journaling because it's National Journal Writing Month and I really hadn't planned on launching Journaling with Jesus.
Speaker A:But when one of the guests had to cancel at last minute and I had to fill an episode, I knew now was the time to do it.
Speaker A:And of course I had been praying about it up to this point and it was a go with God.
Speaker A:I even went to God in my journal and was like, can I launch journaling with Jesus?
Speaker A:And he was like, yes.
Speaker A:So I ended up launching it last month.
Speaker A:It was the last episode in episode 43.
Speaker A:So if you didn't listen to that, be sure to check that out because I kind of share all about it.
Speaker A:And I'd also encourage you to check out the website.
Speaker A:You can go to journalingwithjesus.com to learn more.
Speaker A:And that's where you'll also go to sign up for the sessions.
Speaker A:They're free.
Speaker A:It's something that I'm offering.
Speaker A:I'm going to try and offer it once a week.
Speaker A:I know we're hitting the end of the year and holidays, so it'll be it may not be every single week, but as the new year progresses, I will for sure try to offer them once a week.
Speaker A:The Cliff Notes version is there are sessions for us to come together as a community and journal together and have a time in God's presence.
Speaker A:So go check out the site journalingwithjesus.com to learn more.
Speaker A:Moving on to Speech Speaking of the journaling series we've just wrapped up in the month of October, the interview with Sulai Ramiro has been my most downloaded episode ever of the entire podcast since I've launched in January.
Speaker A:I know guest episodes can do that because the guest is sharing it, but this one continues to get download after download.
Speaker A:And I know Sulai hasn't shared it anymore because she's a friend of mine.
Speaker A:So I follow her on social media and she hasn't mentioned it.
Speaker A:Maybe she's mentioned it as she's, you know, talking with people, but still it is continuing to rack up downloads.
Speaker A:So there's something about that episode that resonated with you all, and I have suspicions, but I would certainly love to hear from you.
Speaker A:And I would also love to hear if you'd love for me to bring her back onto the show again.
Speaker A:And if so, what do you want to go deeper on?
Speaker A:What was it about the episode that resonated with you?
Speaker A:You can DM me on Instagram @AngiewRobertson or you can reply to one of the weekly emails that I send out.
Speaker A:And if you don't receive those weekly emails, no worries.
Speaker A:You can sign up@spiritledlifepodcast.com the emails are short, they're easy to read.
Speaker A:I also share stories in those emails that I'm not sharing anywhere else, not on social media or even this podcast.
Speaker A:I also include the show notes for that week's episode in the email so it's easy for you to access the resources I share.
Speaker A:Again, you can go to spiritledlifepodcast.com to sign up.
Speaker A:Now it is time to move on to the parts of our soul for my mind it has been the Freedom series our church has been doing for the last few months.
Speaker A:I have been unlearning some lies I used to believe and replacing them with truth.
Speaker A:And this past week we talked about how Satan is real and yes, he is out to kill, steal and destroy.
Speaker A:That's what the Bible says.
Speaker A:But he does it when we are at our weakest.
Speaker A:So just because you're driving down the road and you have a flat tire doesn't mean that Satan's attacking you.
Speaker A:Growing up in the name and claimant error that I was taught that every negative thing was because of either some sin in our life that I needed to be rid of or the devil was attacking you.
Speaker A:And the devil's greatest weapon is actually deception and he wants to deceive us so much so we'll turn our backs on God.
Speaker A:And we can see this in John 8:44 where it says for you are the children of your father the Devil and you love to do the evil things he does.
Speaker A:He was a murderer from the beginning.
Speaker A:He has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him.
Speaker A:When he lies, it is consistent with his character for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Speaker A:The whole series that we've been doing at our church has been eye opening for me and caused me to really look at some of the things I have believed and why do I believe them.
Speaker A:And I certainly don't want to be deceived.
Speaker A:So I'll link to the whole series if you're interested.
Speaker A:You can check it out for yourself.
Speaker A:It's been really wonderful how we've been taking different areas where we might have had deception and kind of cracking those open against the word of God for my will.
Speaker A:I was recently reading a loop for women message.
Speaker A:You know, my favorite loop for women.
Speaker A:And I feel like God always uses those messages to confirm something that he is saying to me or to encourage me.
Speaker A:And here's part of the message that spoke to me.
Speaker A:Oh daughter, what does it look like to be committed to me?
Speaker A:Let me tell you, there is waiting.
Speaker A:A lot of waiting.
Speaker A:At least that is what it feels like.
Speaker A:It feels like I am stalling that I am busy doing other things and can't attend to you or I am pushing you to wrestle with me into discomfort.
Speaker A:The waiting isn't stagnation.
Speaker A:When you are wrestling with me, I would rather you wrestle with me.
Speaker A:Want to push back against me in frustration or anger or fear, then turn your back and not engage at all.
Speaker A:Now I will say the last five and a half years have been some of the most difficult times in my entire life.
Speaker A:I was just having a conversation with Poppy, and for those of you new here, I call God Poppy.
Speaker A:God has many names in the Bible, and he actually wants us to have an intimate relationship with him.
Speaker A:And so Poppy is my personal intimate name for him, and that's how I reference him.
Speaker A:Anyway, I was talking with him the other day about how I feel like I have a ball and a chain tied to one foot while the other one is trying to walk forward.
Speaker A:It has been super frustrating.
Speaker A:On one hand, I don't want to be like Sarah and take matters into my own hands.
Speaker A:We saw how well that worked for her.
Speaker A:And on the other hand, I don't want to have a false sense of stuckness.
Speaker A:So receiving this message was right on time for me.
Speaker A:It caused me to kind of check my will and see if I was trying to force something for my own timeline or practice self control and waiting on God.
Speaker A:Moving on to emotions.
Speaker A:I'm not sure if you've seen an Instagram reel circulating where it starts with a mom at a coffee shop.
Speaker A:I think it's a coffee shop and her child is throwing a temper tantrum.
Speaker A:And this.
Speaker A:There's these two ladies standing off to the side, and the older lady says to the other lady that parents don't know how to parent anymore in this day and age.
Speaker A:And then it shows an earlier scene with that same mom and the kid where she is at a foster agency and she is getting ready to be this kid's third foster home.
Speaker A:And he has gone through so much trauma.
Speaker A:And the foster agent is telling her about what's happening and the mom is just, like, mortified.
Speaker A:And the reel continues on with scenes like that where people are losing their cool and they don't know the full picture of what someone's going through.
Speaker A:And I'll try to.
Speaker A:I think I've got the link to the reel and I'll put it in the show notes.
Speaker A:But I watched that and I started bawling the conviction that I had in my own heart of how many times I have been impatient or inconsiderate with someone and not taking a step back to consider what someone else might be going through.
Speaker A:I had to really search my heart on this, and it really affected me profoundly.
Speaker A:And if you've watched it or after you watch it, I'd love to know if I was the only one.
Speaker A:So again, you can DM me.
Speaker A:You can reply to an email.
Speaker A:I'd love to hear from you.
Speaker A:Now we've covered Body and Soul, and before we move on to Spirit, I want to thank those who download each episode each week and leave kind reviews like this one from Imani Evora, and she says this is one of the best podcasts ever.
Speaker A:Guys, you won't regret a listen.
Speaker A:Tune in, world.
Speaker A:Thank you, Imani.
Speaker A:I appreciate it.
Speaker A:These are hard to read sometimes because I don't want to come across boasting.
Speaker A:I'm just reading what you guys are writing and I really, truly appreciate it.
Speaker A:It just means so much to me that you take the time to listen and leave a review.
Speaker A:And I want to let you know that we are a part of a community and I really, truly appreciate you and I really look forward to getting to connect with you guys on the other side with these Journaling with Jesus sessions, I also want to invite those who maybe this is your first episode you were listening to, or maybe you've been listening off and on and just to kind of click the follow link in your favorite podcast platform so that you can become an official part of this community as well.
Speaker A:Now let's move on to Spirit.
Speaker A:For my conscience, this might come across as kind of more of a gratitude, but I was looking back at last month's journal entries and conversations that I've had with Poppy, and I'm grateful that I've.
Speaker A:I've learned to trust my own experience with God and that we have God's Word to line it up with.
Speaker A:Like I was sharing earlier, our church is doing a Freedom series and we learned all about how important the Word of God is and that it is a living word, meaning it is just as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago.
Speaker A:It isn't just something you read and it no longer applies.
Speaker A:Also, you might read something this year and then next year come across the same passage and they take on a whole new meaning.
Speaker A:This is the living Word of God.
Speaker A:I'm so grateful that any questions, doubts, fears, anything I have, I can bring it to God and I can trust that he's going to respond with his truth because His Word says that it will and he can't be a liar.
Speaker A:I can also trust that as a believer in God, I am a new creation and that His Spirit lives in me and that darkness and light cannot coexist in me.
Speaker A:For fellowship the interviews I had this month and getting to hear how God is working in others lives, hearing their testimonies, all of that was so important and so encouraging to me.
Speaker A:I hope it encouraged and uplifted you as well and bears witness to give God the glory.
Speaker A:Hearing people's testimonies is something that I will never tire of hearing.
Speaker A:Finally, my intuition.
Speaker A:I mentioned in my five Senses section that I would share how I started on this holistic journey for my dental health.
Speaker A:It started with a recent dental visit where the hygienist said I was going to need a debridement procedure for my gums as I was heading towards serious gum disease.
Speaker A:And I couldn't understand as I'm faithful with my dental care.
Speaker A:I don't have any cavities, I even have any tooth pain.
Speaker A:I wasn't even experiencing any issues like bleeding of gums or anything.
Speaker A:So it came such a shock to me.
Speaker A:I mean, I do all the things, all the things for my dental care.
Speaker A:I floss, I brush, I do everything.
Speaker A:I am very meticulous about my how I take care of my teeth.
Speaker A:And it just wasn't making sense to me.
Speaker A:I was going to a new dentist because my previous dentist, I just didn't think they were doing a good job and they were more interested in selling me additional services than cleaning my teeth and making sure that I was healthy.
Speaker A:And I had only let one dental visit pass before finding a new dentist.
Speaker A:So my previous dentist didn't mention anything about bone loss or gum disease.
Speaker A:So again, I was very shocked and I felt super defeated.
Speaker A:I have worked so hard to take care of my teeth.
Speaker A:I mean, when I was in middle school, I saved money to put down the down payment on my braces because my mom couldn't afford the down payment and payments.
Speaker A:So I worked a summer job and saved the money and I took care of my braces because I was fully invested.
Speaker A:I had sunk my own money into my braces.
Speaker A:So you better bet I was going to make sure that I got my money's worth out of those braces.
Speaker A:So I was following my intuition about leaving my previous dentist.
Speaker A:And I'm glad that I did because clearly they weren't cleaning my teeth properly.
Speaker A:And I'm not saying that this new dentist is bad.
Speaker A:I've just decided that enough is enough.
Speaker A:And God brought back to remembrance something I had seen about holistic dental care and I was able to easily find it again and what I had learned about it.
Speaker A:So I bought the book and I did some research and I came across this whole new routine.
Speaker A:And I will be going back to my new dentist in February and my prayer is that I have reversed the gum disease because according to this book I can do that, and that I've gotten back on track of good oral hygiene and bonus, that I actually go back even better because I'm somebody that builds up, you know, really bad with tartar and plaque and things.
Speaker A:And it's always been a challenge to keep that at bay.
Speaker A:And so I'm hoping that I go back and that that's even under control.
Speaker A:So I will keep you updated, that is for sure.
Speaker A:Well, there you have it.
Speaker A:What supported me Body, Soul and Spirit for the Month of October for this week's Heavenly Position System Challenge.
Speaker A:As always, we're taking out our journals and take some time to reflect on the month of October for yourself and your three body, soul and spirit and the makeup of each.
Speaker A:My hope for this episode is that it drew you a little bit closer to God and understanding and accepting yourself more.
Speaker A:Now, I will end today's episode with the lyrics from a really old worship song titled Hungry and I'll be sure to link to a version of the song in the show notes.
Speaker A:You might remember it.
Speaker A:Some of you, some of you.
Speaker A:It might be a new song that you might really enjoy.
Speaker A:I thought of this song when I shared the Loop for Women excerpt and it seemed like a perfect fit.
Speaker A:Now I've cut some of this lyrics out to make it a little shorter since it is a song, but these are the main verses of the song, if you will.
Speaker A:Hungry I come to you for I know you satisfied I am empty but I know your love does not run dry so I wait for you I've fallen on my knees offering all my needs.
Speaker A:Jesus, you're all this heart is living for Broken, I run to you for your arms are open wide I am weary but I know your touch restores my life so I wait for you.
Speaker A:Hungry, I come to you for I know you satisfy I am empty but I know your love does not run dry To God be the glory.
Speaker A:Thank you for joining me on today's episode.
Speaker A:This episode was produced, recorded and edited by me, Angie Robertson.
Speaker A:I look forward to joining you each Thursday for a new episode as we explore together how to have a spirit led life Wa Sa.
